message from Philip Heath ..." On my recent visit to Fez,
Morocco, I was amazed and delighted by the beauty and rich
culture of this country. However,, I was saddened by the
poverty and hopelessness that also exists. I visited small
companies where talented craftsmen spun silk, sewed, wove,
sculpted clay, made shoes, jewelry, carpets, and handbags and
then struggled to sell their wares. Leila is the result of my
experience. Leila Past is portrayed as a poor child from a
country that has a war torn history. Her European clothes are
worn and dirty and probably donated. She sits at the roadside,
parented by her older sisters, as they try to sell anything
the family can scavenge... Philip Heath"

... After sculpting for Gotz for many years, Philip Heath
Design's is totally independent and has opened his studio and
showroom in the heart of Valencia, Spain.
Philip is a master at capturing a child's heart and soul. All
of his dolls are sculpted after real children that he has
found in his travels. These dolls are very unique!
He creates a version of the "lost" child and another version
of the same child "found".
The dolls are completely hand painted and finished by Philp
Heath. With the "lost" collection, Philip actually rips and
dye's the material to look old and give each doll it's very
own character.

Heath ... "It is important when I'm sculpting that
I remember and use all my senses to recall and capture my initial
impressions of the child and his or her surroundings. The effects
of these impressions help me to imbue my sculptures with
emotions."
Philip Heath has taken his materials with
him on his travels and sculpted the child directly from life - an
important step for an artist who wants not only to produce a
realistic portrait, but wants "to put a soul in his work".

A quote from Philip Heath ... "For this portrait I have
transported Adrian back into the past, into the times of his
grandfather. He is depicted as a little boy from a very poor
family playing on the streets of a village in the subureds
of Valencia. His clothes are typical of the period; they are
well worn (used and handed down by older brothers) and
dirty. His grandmother (abuela in Spanish) has wrapped him
up well against the damp and driving winter wind. I myself
remember my mother tying a similar scarf around my body with
a knot at the back..."against the chill" she always said...
